Kilkenny ◆ Wednesday to Sunday ◆ From six
Dinner by candlelight.
Thirty seats in an old chandler’s workshop. No screens, no music you’d notice, and no electric light after dark.
Everything worth eating looks better here.
This was a chandler’s workshop for a hundred and forty years. The walls still smell faintly of beeswax. Ríona cooks what Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford send her that morning, and Luc pours what goes with it.
The room seats thirty. We light it at six and let it burn down.
Don’t ask for a table. Choose one.
Tell us when. The tables that are free will light up.
We’ll keep it lit, friend.
This is a demo, so nothing was booked. The candle is real in spirit only.
“We asked for the table by the fire and got to pick it ourselves. He proposed before the bread.”
Gráinne, table six
“The best hake I’ve had in Leinster, and I couldn’t see a thing, in the best way.”
Fergal, table two
